The first settlement in KAYA KÖY belonged to the Lycian civilization ( 3000 BC).The first town called KARYMLASSOS.

KAYA KÖY was predominantly Greek until 1923. the majority of Greeks lived on the mountain side where as the Türks lived on the plateau. They lived together for hundred of years until the population exchange in 1923. There are 3500 stone houses, chapels, girls and boys schools, 2 churches ( panaghia Pyrgiotissa and Tarsiyarhis). Since tourism came to Kaya it has been called the “ Ghost Village”

Gemiler beach is the nearest beach to the Kaya köy. It is a natural bay and just 8 km. away from the village. Ölü Deniz beach is 10 km from Kaya. Hisarönü holiday resort is 4 km.Göcek 40 km. , Patara 75 km. , Kalkan 90 km. , Dalyan 65 km. , Saklıkent 35 km.away from the village.

People who like walking can trek along the marked footpaths or they can also join in guided tours.

• Coldwater Bay can be only reached by walking or by sea because there is no road. (40 minutes)
• Ölü Deniz Lagoon is a more challenging walk, through pine forest and mountain tracks ( 1 hour)
• Turunç Pınarı is reached through pine forest and includes many historical remains (1 hour)
• Afkule Monastery ( 40 minutes)




There are also alternative tours and activities such as paragliding, jeep safari, mountain climbing, scuba diving, speed boating and gulet tours.
